What Does the Quran Say About Anxiety and Overthinking

Quranic Reflection · 5 min read

The thought loops. The what-ifs multiply. You have been over it a hundred times and you are no closer to peace.

The Quran Knows Your Mind

"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest."
— Surah Ar-Ra'd, 13:28

Not distraction. Not escape. Rest. The Arabic word — tatma'inn — means a deep settling, a stillness that goes all the way down.

You Are Not Broken for Feeling This

"And We know that your chest is constrained by what they say."
— Surah Al-Hijr, 15:97

Allah said this to the Prophet. He acknowledged the tightness in the chest before offering relief. He sees yours too.

What Helps

"So be patient. Indeed the promise of Allah is truth. And exalt Allah with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning."
— Surah Ghafir, 40:55

Morning and evening dhikr is a deliberate return to what is real when your mind is pulling you into what is imagined.
