Why Does Allah Test the People He Loves
It is the question under all other questions: if He loves me, why is this happening?
Testing Is Not Punishment
"Do people think that they will be left alone because they say 'We believe' and will not be tested?"
— Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:2
The test is built into the nature of this life. It is not a sign that something has gone wrong — it is a sign that you are being taken seriously.
The Prophets Were Tested the Most
The Prophet said the most severely tested people are the prophets, then those closest to them in righteousness. The closer you are to Allah, the more you are refined. A test is not Allah looking away — it is Allah looking directly at you.
What the Test Produces
"And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you and the patient."
— Surah Muhammad, 47:31
The test reveals you — to yourself. What you are capable of. What you reach for under pressure. The difficulty is not the point. What it draws out of you is.
